How do you choose the name of your child? Do you go for conservative names like Peter and Paul or Jane and Mary? Or would you go for posh names like Madox and Shiloh? Hmm.. tis not easy isn't it?? It is said that your name reflects your personality so it is important to have a good name. The Chinese believe that it is important to pick a meaningful name for their child. Thus you have names like Ai Mei (pretty) or Mei Hua (pretty flower).

In a recent report in The West Australian, WA parents are found to be more inclined to give their child unique or musical first names, and although they still like to keep older names (like the ones they or their parents bore), they prefer them to be rarely heard. So conservative names like Donald, Edward, George and Anne live on as second names. And just what are the unique names that have cropped up? Shanannakylah,Bailey (like the liqueur..hehe), Cassidy and Tully for girls and Cooper, Ranger, Carter and Archer for boys. There are also unusual names - Cashmere, Lux,Brinley, Naturelle and Zepher-Lily, which are one-off names. Hey imagine naming your daughter Tahitia, Shaquina or your son Zedakai, Trevonce, Rocket or Rogue!! Well, gone are the days when names like Peter and Paul, or Rose and Mary are popular..I remember when my brother wanted to have his son baptised and the priest said that he needed to find a name of the saint, or one that is in the bible, and we ended up with Ian Nathaniel. Imagine if we had suggested Ranger Peter, I think the priest would have fainted!!! hheheeh..

Anyway , here are the top ten girls' second names:
Rose, Grace, Louise, Jane, Jade, Anne, Elizabeth, Marie, May and Lee

and the top ten boys' second names:
James, John, William, Michael, Thomas, Robert, David, Peter, Joseph and Andrew

So when you next have a baby, you can think of creative names to name him/her, who knows you might end up with a daughter name Palmolive Jane or a son name Banjo Paul
