Daylight savings have now officially ended at 3am Sunday morning, that's when we turned back our clock by an hour. So now, we are on the same time as KK.. I enjoyed daylight savings although many people do not like it. It is always enjoyable to have the extra daylight at the end of the day. The sun only sets at around 8 30 pm!! Imagine all the things that one can do after work. I enjoy going for my walks after dinner. I guess many parents found it difficult getting their kids to go to bed as it is still very hot at 7 pm. When it first started, it felt so weird but after a while I adapted and began to enjoy it. I remembered when I went to KL to study and as we all know the sun doesn't set until around 730pm in KL. I used to marvel at the extra sunlight where we could go and have games after class.
Well, daylight savings will be back again in August I reckon. Meanwhile, winter is just around the corner and it is getting colder by the day. Yippiee!! my second winter in Oz :-)

Crabs, crabs, crabs.. that's what we went to see in Mandurah Crab Festival this weekend. Apparently this is a yearly event held at the waterfront. Well, since we have never been to Mandurah, which by the way is down south, we took a drive down, after breakfast at Hungry Jack of course. Armed with the street maps and some very simple direction advice from a friend, we drove down Kwinana Freeway. It took us about an hour on the road. Luckily it was easy enough to drive there as the advice was "Drive straight down Kwinana Freeway".. and that's exactly what we did. When we reached there, parking was almost full up, the road to the bridge was closed and people were already packing the waterfront. There were many activities held on that day, programs for adults and program for kids. There were game stalls and rides, food stalls and cooking demos as well. The only crab we saw was the mascot.. haha..we were hoping to see crabs and eat crabs, well, lets just say we didnt!! :) But all in all it was a good day, and now I can proudly say that I have been to Mandurah. Here are some pictures taken there

Ok so I heard that SPM results came out yesterday. I wonder how my students did.. hmmm.. hope they did not do that badly, especially since they are the first batch of students to sit for the exam. I remember when their PMR result came out a few years back.. it was really tense. Well, no matter what, I think they will do OK..hmmm.. think I will sms my colleague on the result. They are usually very quick with info, but this time round, I haven't heard anything yet.Is that a bad sign?? Keeping my fingers crossed.

Friday 9 March 2007

YIPPIEEE!!!! It's Friday again. Seems like just yesterday I said it was Friday :-) It's going to be windy weekend I think. At the moment it is quite cold outside, for even though it is a fine day, the wind is cold.

On a sadder note, the residents up north had a visit from Cyclone George last nite and the massive wind has created major destructions, leaving a trail of injuries and even claimed 2 lives. Believed to be the most powerful cyclone to hit the WA coast in 30 years, its '275km/h winds tearing off roofs, mangling fences, downing trees and power lines and cutting phone services to most local towns'. What's worse, the same town is also preparing for another cyclone, Cyclone Jacob. Kesian also..

Anyway, hopefully it doesn't reach Perth and I can go out tomorrow and see what is going on in the city :-) Maybe pretend to be a tourist and take some pics.. hehe..

Imagine standing in front of a baking oven with its door opened, that is how it feels today - hot and dry. Apparently, today is the hottest day in autumn - 42.3 degress!!! The beauty of it is that you don't sweat coz it is dry, but the heat is terrible, it stings your skin.I didn't leave my office the whole day, not even during lunch break - it is that hot :-( So what do you do on a hot day like this?? You go to work, coz there is air con in the office... hahaha... or if you are a true ozzie, you go and bake at the beach :-) You'd be surprise at how many people were at the beach today.

And guess who came to Bondi Beach?? Mr Bean and his bear, Teddy!! He is here to promote his new movie, Mr Bean's Holiday. Caused quite a stir too. Lucky those people who happened to be there today.

Perth, a nice city, small like KK except for a lot of ang mos around :-)One thing I like about Oz is the scenery, they are really beautiful. Looking at the way the place is planned, I can't help but feel sad that KK is not as properly planned because I think KK is beautiful too. Here are some pics I took when I went for my walk just now...

Well, it's Friday again and that means late nite shopping in the city. Tonight shops open until about 9 pm. On other days, shops close at 5 30pm. In the suburbs, late nite shopping is on Thursday, the only nite supermarkets are open until about 8 30 pm. This is when you see many people swarming the supermarkets to buy food. If in KK we have Tong Hing, Servey, Chua Ka Seng and Merdeka supermarket, here we have Woolworths, Coles, Iga and Supa Iga. Every week there are specials, and things on specials are cheap. So if you want to save, buy specials .. hehe...

When I first arrived, bananas were selling for $13.99 a kg!!! That is about RM30 a kg!!! So gila isn't it?? Now it is more affordable, $2.99 a kg. Papayas (or paw paw they call them here) are selling for $5 a kg, I resolve to only eat papaya when I go home in April :-) Other fruits are reasonably cheap - peaches, plums, kiwis, cherries, strawberries, oranges.. yeah, and grapes too. Broccoli and cauliflowers are cheap too. It's really cheap if you buy and cook at home. Eating out can be quite pricey, everything costs around $8 to $9.. and the char siew at home is still the best. What I miss most? Satay!! :-)can't wait to go home...

Thursday 1 March 2007

Today is Powerball Jackpot 33 MILLION Day!!!!!Did I buy? Sure did!! Did I win?? Donno yet.. haven't checked..maybe.. hopefully!! and if I won, I will be a millionaire..haha.. wishful thinking. Well, it's always good to have a dream, even if it's just a wishful one.

So first day of Autumn. It rained the whole good part of the day, looks like rain again tomorrow. Its cold outside and I am staying home. Thought of going for a walk by the river, but too cold, especially when the wind blows. It's 8.05pm and it is just getting dark. That's the good thing with having daylight savings. We have more daylight in summer, it doesn't get dark till about 8 45 pm, so more time to go walk walk.. Now it starts getting dark much earlier, around about this time. We also don't get the sun until about 7 am too nowadays. I think I will have to go catch a bus in the dark during winter.. eeeeiiii... haha..

Ok, so what's the latest gossip in town? Apart from jackpot? Hmm.. parents getting sued if their child is too fat, more corrupted ministers got the sack, government allowing surrogacy, and students dealing drugs in schools are just some of the hot gossips going around now.
